One Simple Swap – Electric Bikes

For a while now, we’ve been reading about and researching the marvel of electric bikes. We live in the mountains and would love to visit friends and neighbors without a car, or travel by bike on a vacation. The idea has been off-putting, though, arriving sweaty and exhausted on our old bikes, in our oldish bodies. E-bikes provide an excellent work-out, just much easier on the body.

We recommend:

  • Consider your needs – anticipated uses, ability, budget
  • Visit multiple stores to ponder variables – comfort, brands, frames, batteries
  • Test ride or rent for full appreciation
  • Save by converting your conventional bike to electric
  • We paid 30% buying from the rental fleet. It’s even pre-scratched!
  • Step-through frames are revelatory, so ergonomic.

Beware: e-bike thieves are fast and ruthless, ALWAYS lock yours securely. Only buy from a reputable store.

And then grin, grin, grin!

Planetarily,

Laura & Gil

Our friends Laura & Gil Richardson are, in their own words, “imperfect” but they are much further down this Planetarian path than anyone I know. They are a treasure trove of sustainable living inspiration and we’ve asked them to share one simple swap per week that they’ve made (and the products they love) in hopes it might inspire you to make them, too.
