We’ve been working for years to address our externalities by considering “real” costs:
- Shrinking fossil fuel use.
- Shifting to a mostly plant-based diet, thank you PL!
- Growing, harvesting, storing, eating, composting our own organic vegetables and fruit.
- Avoiding air-travel.
- Moderating the stuff we buy.
- Reducing-reusing-recycling everything we can.
In fact, we’ve dramatically minimized trash that goes to the landfill. Now for the next step!
- Collects hard-to-recycle products for upcycling.
- Drop-off points for free recycling.
- Partners collect and upcycle these materials.
- Sells products made from upcycled materials.
137 kinds of hard-to-recycle stuff finds a home:
- Snack packaging, coffee pods, drink pouches, bottle caps, chewing gum.
- Toothpaste tubes, hairspray containers, razor-blade cartridges.
- Hearing aids, electronics, batteries.
- Textiles – baby clothes, tights, socks.
- Even cigarettes and their packaging!
We bought the at-home boxes for plastic packaging and other weird stuff.
Planetarily,
Laura & Gil
Our friends Laura & Gil Richardson are, in their own words, “imperfect” but they are much further down this Planetarian path than anyone I know. They are a treasure trove of sustainable living inspiration and we’ve asked them to share one simple swap per week that they’ve made (and the products they love) in hopes it might inspire you to make them, too.
