My New Car

When our trusted mechanic said that it was time to get a new car, Andy and I listened. After years of wanting to join the Electric Vehicle (EV) revolution, we finally got our first plug-in hybrid on Monday, taking advantage of $8,000 in EV rebates ($7,500 Federal, $500 NY State.)

Road travel accounts for three-quarters of transport emissions, most of which come from passenger vehicles (45.1%). For the U.S. to be carbon-neutral by 2050, it must coax drivers to switch from gas-powered to electric vehicles.

Cars are unique to the driver. While I appreciate the sleek, tech-y aesthetic of a Tesla, I love the relatively no-frills experience of a Plug-In Hybrid Jeep. For example, when my kids are playing with the windows, I can lock them a flip of a switch – no screen tapping required. For us, the Jeep’s best feature is that we can take off the roof and doors and feel the outdoors!

Any ride in an electric car is smooth, but I was surprised at how quietly an electric Jeep runs. When I first pressed “Start” nothing seemingly happened, but it was on alright!

Regardless of the EV you select, the best part is knowing you’ve been riding around all day sans fossil fuels—I won’t have to fill up for months! This model has a thirty-mile range and, with a level two charger, can be charged in just two hours

If you’re thinking about getting a new car, consider a hybrid. Check out rebates available to you here.
