So. Much. Rain.
So. Many. Biting. Insects.
Not only annoying, mosquitoes and other nasties may carry diseases that are ever-more prevalent. A warmer world creates new and hospitable places for them to breed and spread.
It isn’t always realistic to goop-up with bug juice. Avoid being bitten by:
- Wearing loose, light-colored clothing.
- Avoiding fragranced personal care products.
- Eschewing damp areas, especially during twilight hours.
- Emptying stagnant/standing water.
- Installing a bat box.
- Wearing less-bad bug juice.
These steps really help but are not fail-safe. Before picking blueberries in early morning or walking in the woods, we don bug-netting anoraks. Pants are also available. It takes some getting used to, but such relief. Plus:
- No chemicals.
- Easy-on, easy-off.
Procure the kind with teeny holes to also keep out no-see-ums and midges. A brimmed hat keeps mesh off your face.
Let’s start a fashion trend!

Our friends Laura & Gil Richardson are, in their own words, “imperfect” but they are much further down this Planetarian path than anyone I know. They are a treasure trove of sustainable living inspiration and we’ve asked them to share one simple swap per week that they’ve made (and the products they love) in hopes it might inspire you to make them, too.
